About Kim's Ark

We are based in Massachusetts

Kim's Ark was started by a Tufts University veterinary student and one of her close friends, who made it their mission to find homes for some of world's most often misunderstood rats. Kim's Ark rescues unwanted rats (and sometimes mice too!) and provides them with vet care and a foster home. The ratties are socialized with both people and other rats, giving them the best life possible until they are adopted. Kim's Ark also works hard to provide transport throughout New England (MA, NH, RI, VT, and ME) and the Mid-Atlantic states (NJ, NY, CT, PA) in order to get rats to their adoptive homes. If you live outside of this area still feel free to contact Kim's Ark for help finding rats in your area.

Kim's Ark is not affiliated with any organization and relies solely on private donations and public support. Please consider making a donation - every donation is appreciated even if it is only your time, your skills, monetary, supplies, foster homes, or forever homes. Small or big everything helps! Although 100% of any donations received are used directly for the rats, Kim's Ark is not currently an official not-for-profit organization. You can also help Kim's Ark by registering with iGive.com where your online shopping can benefit Kim's Ark!

Kim's Ark's rats are fed a nutritious diet using Wellness Senior or Innova Senior dog food and Harlan Teklad lab blocks. The rats are housed in spacious Martins cages with bedding that is safe for rats, in foster homes across New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

Please note that Kim's ark does NOT have a shelter! BLACK HOODED

Most rats have been checked by a veterinarian and ALL have received medical attention if indicated and necessary. The rats are quarantined and the Ark also performs serologic testing when appropriate for disease detection. The results of these tests are available upon request. Kim's Ark's uses many wonderful veterinarians including Dr. Kim Somjen herself, Dr. Greg Mertz, the Odd Pet Vet (the director of the New England Wildlife Center), as well as the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mertz can be contacted at: (781) 251-9131 and the Tufts Vet School can be contacted at: (508) 839-5395. Dr. Kim's contact info is available through this website and at her clinic, Belle Mead Animal Hospital (908)-874-4447
