Operation Desperation

85 of the rats pulled from New York went directly to Kim's house where they were sorted, counted, had their pictures taken, and moved into clean, spacious cages. Another 22 went to foster homes in other parts of NY and even as far away as adopters in Pennsylvania! Most of the rats are now slowly adjusting to life in their foster homes, where we are getting reports that despite their being shy, most of them are incredibly sweet. Many have been spayed and neutered, and various injuries and ailments have been addressed.

We are still in the process of spaying the females - we are doing this for a variety of reasons, including the fact that these rats are terribly inbred, most of them are not even 5 months old yet, and some of them have already had multiple litters - it is simply not healthy for them OR any litter they had, to be in that situation. Females that are near term will have the litter and then be spayed to ensure that they will never have to have another litter again!

Two of our babies have umbilical hernias, which are currently under observation and once they get bigger will undergo surgery at the Tufts Vet School. We have all our vets, as well as some new vets that have volunteered their time and services, as well as fit us in as an emergency, working overtime to get these rats the medical care they need - at last count, we have no less than 7 vets treating these rats in 3 different states!

If you can spare any money or wish to make a donation on behalf of these rats, we (and the rats) would greatly appreciate it. You can send money via paypal to weecompanions@aol.com - be sure to mention its for the Operation Desperation rats. Wee companions has graciously allowed us to use their paypal address so that you will be able to get a tax receipt. We are also accepting donations of food, treats, caging, etc if you are in the area and have some to spare. For more info, or if you would rather send a check, please email info@kimsarkrescue.org.

You can see pictures of ALL 85 rats that went through Kim's house here: http://www.petfish.net/gallery/OperationDesperation, and the rats that are still available are listed below.

We would love it if these rats could go to their new homes in the same groups they are currently in at their foster homes. The groupings are represented below.

ALL of the female rats from this rescue effort have been adopted!!! Thanks to everyone for all their help!

Three black berk males set to be neutered soon, who are shy in the cage but very sweet when out with people - these boys need time and understanding to become the wonderful big fat squishes they are hiding on the inside! These boys were some of the first ones to come to us the first night we had them, and have been good boys since!

#73 Maker& Pal (not pictured) Both are VERY sweet sweet boys. Pal is a PEW dumbo, who is currently recovering from an umbilical hernia and neuter surgery, but he is just as sweet as ever.
